The NCOC or the National Command Operation Center is a central body that heads and oversees the nationwide response to COVID-19 in Pakistan. It was formed in April 2020 under the orders of the Prime Minister of Pakistan Mr. Imran Khan. One of its major functions involves collecting, analyzing, and processing real-time data related to the virus from all regions and provinces in Pakistan.
The NCOC also governs and implements policies undertaken to curtail the spread of COVID-19 and recommends probable steps backed by evidence to the National Coordination Committee (NCC) to keep the spread of the disease under check through informed decisions.
To speed up the vaccination campaign in Pakistan the NCOC has banned air travel for unvaccinated people. After September 10, 2021, a vaccination certificate would be required if citizens wish to travel by air.
Furthermore, the NCOC took another decision to ban train travel for unvaccinated people after October 1st, 2021 in a bid to contain the spread of the pandemic and persuade people to get vaccinated.
The NCOC played a key role in managing COVID-19 in Pakistan through the use of suppression measures such as smart lockdowns throughout the country.
During the surge of coronavirus cases in the country, key areas in all provinces went under lockdown, and reduced timings were imposed on markets and shops for commercial activities. Restaurants, educational institutions, and public places like cinemas and parks were also temporarily closed.
These policies ensured that people didn’t leave their houses unnecessarily and it helped contain the spread of the virus.

The NCOC has played a key in developing and implementing standard operating procedures (SOP’s) to curtail the spread of the virus across the country.
The NCOC set the proper guidelines that citizens should follow to prevent coronavirus and ensured their implementation. Not only have they set the general SOPs that are to be followed by the masses, but they have also developed the SOPs for specific events and holidays like Ramzan, Eid-ul-Adha, Independence Day, and so on.
