6 Medical Reasons for Why You May Be up All Night

Even though it’s normal to have an occasional restless night, if sleeplessness persists for longer than a month, the underlying cause must be identified. Chronic sleep problems according to top psychologist in Lahore are sometimes rooted in some medical conditions. Both the quantity and quality of sleep is linked to physical, hormonal, and emotional conditions. Here are some common triggers that could be keeping you up:

1-Sleep Apnea:

If your mornings start on a sad note and you usually wake up feeling irritable, forgetful, sleepy and “headachy”, you could be suffering from sleep apnea. It is a sleep-related breathing disorder and affects nearly 20 million people, but pregnant women are more vulnerable to it. If you snore loudly while you are sleeping and wake up tired, you might have sleep apnea.

2-Pain:

A good number of the population suffers from chronic pain and many of them also suffer from sleeping problems. Headaches, back pain, and temporomandibular joint syndrome are the top culprits that can steal a good night’s sleep.

3-Asthma:

Breathing difficulties and coughing, which are often the hallmarks of asthma, might make it difficult for a person to sleep. Asthma symptoms typically get worse at night because of the changes in functioning that tighten the airways, heightening the risk of an asthma attack at night.

4-Menopause:

The onset of insomnia often coincides with the time a woman’s periods start to end. Nearly 61 percent of menopausal women report sleep problems. This could be because of a decline in progesterone levels during menopause. Since progesterone is a hormone that promotes sleep, changing levels of estrogen can lead to sleep disruptions by causing sudden waves of intense body heat, hot flashes, and sweating.

5-Depression:

Some studies have revealed that as many as 90 percent of the people suffering from depression report sleep problems too. Insomnia is usually the most prominent symptom of low-grade depression. Waking up in the early hours of the morning is one of the most common symptoms of depression. Other sleep-related problems caused by depression include sleeping excessively and difficulty falling asleep.

Anxiety (persistent worrying and uneasiness) can also leave you wide awake due to the inability to relax. Appropriate medications can help ease depression and anxiety, as well as the resulting sleep problems.

5-Depression:

It is a neurological disorder that interferes with your body’s ability to absorb or produce the neurochemical hypocretin. Excessive daytime sleepiness causes the people suffering from the disorder to uncontrollably fall asleep during the daytime, while at night they wake up multiple times.
