Anemia is a condition in which you lack enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to your body’s tissues. Anaemia can make you feel tired and weak. It may be long-term or temporary depending on its severity.

Q.1. Why do women suffer from anemia during pregnancy?

Well, unfortunately, 80% of women suffer from anaemia during pregnancy. Anemia can cause many complications for the mother and the baby leading to the delivery.

Q.2. What are the causes of anemia?

Anemia can have many causes but the biggest cause is a deficiency of Vitamin B12 and iron and folic acid. On the other hand, if someone has a history of tuberculosis or liver issues, then you might be prone to anemia. Lastly, having thalassemia or sickle-cell disease can also make you prone to anaemia. 

Q.3. What are the symptoms of anemia?

Well, symptoms of anemia include extreme weakness, pale skin, chest pain, shortness of breath, fast heartbeat.

Q.4. What is the best diet plan for anemic patients?

Well, keep red meat in your diet especially, mutton liver, liver and beef. On the other hand, fish can be added in the diet as well. Similarly, leafy, green vegetables, such as kale and spinach are rich iron and Vitamin B12 sources as well.

Fruits such as apples, bananas and pear must be added to the diet as well!

Q.5. How can one diagnose an iron deficiency?

If women experience trouble breathing, feel extreme fatigue and drowsiness, then they must visit a consultant gynecologist as soon as possible. They will recommend some blood test or other preliminary tests that can confirm if you are anemic or not.

After diagnosis, appropriate treatment is advised that may include, medication, supplements, and iron injections. In severe cases, a blood transfusion may also be done.
