Smecta sachet is used for the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea. It is the medicine of choice for treating diarrhea in children. Smecta sachet controls diarrhea due to its adsorption properties. The medicine is composed of Dioctahedral Smectite which is an edible clay with antidiarrheal properties that adsorbs viruses, bacteria, and gastrointestinal irritants. The medicine comes in the form of a powder meant to be taken orally after dissolving it in water.

The risks and warnings associated with Smecta Sachet are:

1. Pregnancy

Avoid the use of Smecta in pregnancy unless recommended by your doctor.

2. Breastfeeding

If you are breastfeeding, do not use Smecta before prior approval from your healthcare provider.

3. Chronic Constipation

Smecta sachet should be used with caution in patients with severe chronic constipation

4. In children under 2 years

Avoid the use of this medication in children and infants below the age of 2 years.

How to use Smecta Sachet?

• For Adults: Open the sachet and dissolve the contents into half a glass of water. Mix well and drink the solution.
• For Children: They can be given Smecta mixed with semi-liquid food or through a feeding bottle by dissolving the powder into 50ml of water.
• The recommended dose for adults is 3 sachets a day for 7 days or as prescribed by your doctor.
• The recommended dose in children in 4 sachets a day for 3 days and 2 sachets a day for 4 days afterwards
• Do not exceed the prescribed dosage.
• If your condition does not improve in 7 days contact your healthcare provider.
