Q.1. What is anxiety? 

Anxiety is a very general term that is used to describe a feeling. It is also our bodies’ natural response to stress. So, it is actually healthy to feel anxiety. The problem only occurs when your anxiety becomes too extreme and starts severely reducing the quality of your life and relationships. That is when we diagnose it as an anxiety disorder and start its treatment.

Q.2. What can anxiety do to your body?

Anxiety affects both your brain and body. Its effects are felt by the whole body and include; headache, feeling weak or tired, trembling, sweating, increased heart rate and trouble breathing. Others include stomach pain and digestive problems as well.

Q.3. What causes anxiety?

There can be many reasons for anxiety. In some people, it is hereditary. That means if someone in their family had it, they can pass it on to the future generations.

Another reason is faulty chemical signalling in the brain. The brain’s natural response to stress and danger becomes offset and triggers at the wrong time. 

Similarly, there are many other reasons that can trigger anxiety such as financial stress, personal stress or any emotional trauma.

Q.4. What are the symptoms of anxiety?

As we discussed before, symptoms of anxiety are overwhelming and are felt by the whole body. These include feeling restless or tense, having a sense of fear and impending doom, sweating, increased heart rate, trouble breathing and trembling.

Moreover, anxiety can also bring about tiredness, fatigue, stomach or digestive issues.

Q.5. What are the main anxiety disorders?

There are many kinds of anxiety disorders, the most common of which is panic disorder.

Panic disorders are characterized by panic attacks that are sudden periods of intense fear that may include palpitations, sweating, shaking, shortness of breath, numbness, or a feeling that something terrible is going to happen.

A phobia is also a type of disorder that is categorized by persistent and excessive fear of an object or situation. Another disorder is a social anxiety disorder that is intense anxiety or fear of being judged negatively in a social situation.
