Best Safety Tips for Contact Lens Wearers

Wearing contact lens can be an intimidating process for some. Invisible fluids, micro bottles, softly curved lens pieces that can get scarred at the slightest of scratch make you think “How am I going to do this?” or “ What if I mess it up?” However, when worn responsibly, contact lenses are really safe to use.

Even though contact lenses are pretty much safe to use, not taking caring of them or not following the safety rules can result in eye infections. Here are some precautions you should take if you wear contact lenses:

1- Get Your Lenses From An Eye Doctor:

You should get the prescription from a qualified or and make sure you get all the instructions regarding proper lens care. Make sure to book an appointment with a top ophthalmologist in Pakistan.

2- Take Contact Lenses Out If Something Seems Amiss:

Always take your contact lenses off if they seem to be bothering you and do not ignore the irritation if you are distracted or busy. Irritation might signal an infection or other problem so do not ignore it.

3- Don’t Go To Bed With Your Lenses:

You reduce oxygen supply to your eyes when you close your eyes without taking lenses off, making the surface of the eyes more vulnerable to infection. Moreover, when the lens is closed against the eyes, there are more chances of bacteria and fungi coming in contact with the cornea.

4- Avoid Water Contact:

Never wear your lenses in the shower or while swimming in rivers, lakes, swimming pools, or sea water as all types water can be home to Acanthamoeba, an organism that can lead to eye infection. Wearing contact lenses while doing water-related activities may lead to Acanthamoeba infections.

5- Avoid Reusing The Contact Lens Solution:

Once the solution is used, it no longer has the disinfecting capability so you are not really saving money by reusing the solution. Make sure you use fresh solution whenever you keep the lenses in their case.

6- Saliva Is Not A Wetting Agent:

You have to be extremely vigilant while wearing contact lenses and not let laziness get the best of you. Do not use saliva for any purpose as your mouth is a really dirty place.

7- Avoid Using Saline Solution For Cleaning:

Saline solution, which is basically sterile salt water, should not be used for cleaning contact lens or disinfection. Use a solution specifically made for contact lens cleaning instead and make sure it includes disinfectant.

8- Toss Your Contact Lenses Every Three Months:

Just like your toothbrush, contact lenses also get dirty so you must replace them every two to three months.
