Can You Get Coronavirus Again After You Have Recovered?

Pakistan has recently crossed the “100,000” mark when it comes to coronavirus patients in the country. According to the worldometers’ report, it is also one of the countries which have the highest increment in the number of new cases. Even though statistics are really bad and the virus is spreading at an all-time high, corona recovered cases are a ray of hope in these dark times.

Corona recovered people are the guarantee of life coming back to normal and are giving encouragement to the whole population that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Some people are, however, still in agony over the idea that people who have recovered corona might get it again. But is there any truth to this idea? Can corona recovered people get infected for a second time and more importantly can they still infect other people?

Can you get corona for a second time?

The answer to this yes and no. The main thing to understand is that corona like all viruses can only leave you alone if your body builds immunity against it. In other words, if your body becomes resilient enough that it does not let coronavirus strands to activate inside your body, you will be in a complete sense safe from the virus.

The virus might still enter your body but the antibodies will attack it immediately and the virus, in essence, will produce dead cells. So the virus will still be present in your body but it will not be able to multiply and cause you any kind of harm.

The thing to keep in mind is the fact that antibody theory is only valid once somebody has completely recovered from the virus. According to WHO, the process of formation of antibodies happens in two phases, and in the first phase, the antibodies are not enough to keep the person safe from a second infection. But if the person has recovered fully, the person is immunized against the virus and does not have a chance of infecting others.

The fact that a lot of corona recovered people in Pakistan are donating plasma to the people who are in a critical situation, is proof that coronavirus recovered people are immune and are no longer carriers as well.

How to tell if I have recovered fully?

Pakistan is going through the worst part of the curve; a lot of people are catching the virus and a lot of the previously infected ones are dying. Amidst this chaos, people who have recovered have a role to play and that is to donate plasma for the ones who are struggling.

To donate plasma, it is important that you have recovered from coronavirus fully and the only way to find out is to get an antibodies test. If your antibodies test is positive, it means you have survived the pandemic and can now help others do the same. You can order a lab test via oladoc.com or by calling at 042-38900939.
