Male Infertility And Its Treatment In Pakistan – Q & A With Dr. Samra Amin

Male infertility refers to the male’s inability to cause a pregnancy in the female. It can account for 40 to 50% of infertility in humans and affects approximately 7% of men. Male infertility commonly occurs due to low sperm count and quality.

Dr. Samra Amin is an andrologist and deals with male fertility issues and problems relating to the male reproductive system. She has 22 years of experience and provides a broad range of services, including marriage counseling and female physical and mental health issues treatment.

In her session with oladoc, she touched on very important subjects related to male health and fertility. If you have any questions about male Infertility, its diagnosis, and treatment, this interview would be very helpful!

Q.1. What is male fertility?

Male infertility is an issue that decreases the chances of a male getting a female pregnant. This means that despite trying, the couple is unable to have a baby. Surprisingly, 50% of the causes of infertility are male-related. I always advise that if a couple is unable to get pregnant, males should get tested first.

Q.2. How common is male fertility?

Like I mentioned before, male fertility has become increasingly common with 50% infertility cases being male-related. This is why I find it best to investigate both the male and female thoroughly if the couple is unable to have a baby.

Q.3. What are the symptoms of male infertility?

Male infertility comes in the form or low sperm count or poor quality of sperm. I would like to take this platform to say that not every lab does a comprehensive semen analysis test. And there has to be a minimum of three semen samples for accurate fertility analysis.

In the sample, we analyze the sperm count. And unfortunately, with every decade, sperm count is decreasing.

Q.4 What are the main causes of male infertility?

There may be many reasons for male infertility. There may be genetic factors or any illnesses, such as mumps that may contribute to infertility. Similarly, drugs, exposure to radiation, urogenital duct blockage, chemotherapy, and smoking can all contribute to male infertility.

I have to emphasize that smoking not only causes a low sperm count but it also changes the shape of the sperm. And, I can’t stress this enough but the radiation of the mobile phones is also very dangerous for the health of sperm cells.

Q.5 What are your suggestions to prevent male fertility?

I do have some suggestions for all the men out there. Please, take a good, balanced diet, consisting mostly of fruits and vegetables. Moreover, take care of your mental, physical and sexual health. Take enough sleep, don’t stress, don’t smoke and stay happy!
