Eating the rainbow is a metaphor for consuming foods that have colors that match the 7 colors of the rainbow. These foods are believed to give you a ton energy, vitality, nutrients, and phytochemicals.
For example, tomatoes are loaded with lycopene, oranges are rich in vitamin C & leafy greens contain magnesium and iron.
But more importantly, is there any connection between rainbow foods and body chakras?
Read on to learn why eating the rainbow matters and whether it affects the key energy centers in the body.
The word chakra (cakra in Sanskrit) means “wheel.” Chakras refer to the focal points from where energy flows within the body.
There are seven main chakras (energy centers) located along the human spine, each associated with a different vibrational frequency and color. When these chakras are in balance, you feel healthy & whole. On the other hand, chakra imbalances may cause you to feel less active, tired, or even sick.
Nature has a way of giving us signals in various ways about what’s good for our health. It is said that eating rainbow-colored foods means consuming all essential nutrients that are required by the human body to keep it healthy and fit.
When people talk about eating the rainbow, they mean incorporating a diverse color profile of healthy foods in your diet everyday to feed your chakras, help promote balance and foster optimal health.
Below is a list of 7 types of colored foods, linked to the colors of the rainbow (from red to purple). We have explained how these foods relate to chakras and their potential impact on your health:
Are linked to the root chakra (which helps you feel grounded and safe and ensures you have everything you need to survive).
Examples: Tomatoes, red apples, red peppers, beets, radishes, strawberries.
Help the sacral chakra to balance (the one related to creativity and pleasure).
Examples: Oranges, carrots, pumpkins, papaya, mangoes.
Are linked to the solar plexus chakra (which helps you feel independent, the one related to self-esteem and confidence).
Examples: Pineapples, corn, lemons, bananas, turmeric, ginger.
Are linked with the heart chakra (which helps you feel loving and compassionate toward yourself, “increases self love” and others, “improves your relationship with others”).
Examples: Spinach, cucumber, avocado, broccoli, kale, kiwi.
Relate to the throat chakra, which helps you communicate effectively with others.
Examples: Blueberries, blackberries, plums.
Relate to the Third Eye Chakra, which helps you with foresight and intuition. It rules your intellect and thought process.
Examples: Figs, prunes, eggplant.
Relate to the Crown Chakra, which helps you connect spiritually with your creator and the universe. It also plays a role in your life’s purpose.
Examples: Beets, eggplant, plums, purple cauliflower, purple cabbage, purple grapes, purple kale, purple rice, purple sweet potatoes.
A balanced diet is what everyone should focus on for good health and wellbeing. Therefore, eating rainbow-colored foods daily is important.
To strike a balance between the 7 chakras, try to eat a variety of colored foods every day. If one of your chakras seems out of balance try eating more foods of the specific color associated with that particular chakra.
A colorful or rainbow diet means more than just getting your daily dose of vitamins and minerals. It means ensuring all the 7 chakras remain in balance by consuming a mix of healthy fruits and vegetables on the rainbow spectrum.
Every person has different nutritional needs, and you must be more aware of your body’s requirements. Book your session with a nutritionist to know which foods you need to consume more of and in what exact quantity.
To recap, this article explained the concept of rainbow diet and its relation to chakras, known as the energy centers of our body.
We discussed how the different colored foods link to different chakras of the body, like yellow food, which relates to the energy center of the solar plexus, controlling self-confidence, and blue food, which is associated with communication.
Consuming rainbow foods helps maintain a complete and balanced diet by checking all the boxes of necessary nutrients that our body needs to function normally.
When the energy chakra (energy center) is blocked, performing physical activity like yoga is advised, as it allows energy flow in the body. Also, it is highly recommended that you take a walk outside, which allows you to build a closer connection to nature and restore your energy.
To unlock your chakras you have to focus on a balanced diet, yoga/any kind of body movement and meditation. Chakras are powerful energy centers located along the spine of the human body. Like the colors of the rainbow, the seven main chakras regulate the energy flow within us, representing various aspects of our mental and emotional well-being.
