Top 5 Anti-Aging Secrets to Slow Down the Aging Process

Most of us start fretting about wrinkles and fine lines after they have appeared instead of being proactive about it. It’s best to start using anti-aging products when you enter your 20s. Our lifestyle and habits largely determine how we will age. We don’t age overnight, it is a gradual process. Although you can’t stop the aging process, you can certainly defy it. Here are some tips to slow down the aging process:

1- A Healthy Diet:

Your skin and hair reflect your inner health. You can use all the topical treatments in the world, but if your diet isn’t healthy, they won’t work effectively. Quit sugar as it leads to premature aging. Avoid eating junk and processed foods. Eat more antioxidant-rich foods such as berries and oranges as they fight free radical damage and improve your skin’s ability to repair itself to stay youthful. Increase your intake of omega-3 fatty acids as they slow down the aging process on a cellular level. Fish is one of the best sources of omega-3 fatty acids. Eat lycopene-rich foods like tomatoes to fight sun-induced damage such as wrinkles. Make sure you drink around 6 to 8 glasses of water every day to stay hydrated and keep your skin plump.

2- Always Wear Sunscreen:

You must apply a broad spectrum sunscreen before stepping out. Sunscreen doesn’t only protect your skin from the harmful UV rays, it also reverses some signs of photoaging such as hyperpigmentation and wrinkles. The regular use of sunscreen improves many signs of sun-induced aging such as overall skin tone, texture, and fine lines. When you prevent the sun from damaging your skin further, it allows your skin to heal on its own. A common misperception is that you only need to apply sunscreen when it’s sunny. You must apply a sunscreen even when it’s cloudy as the UV rays of the sun are still there.

3- Serum Is a Must:

Serums are generally used before the moisturizers. Serums aren’t that mainstream yet but their popularity is increasing and they are now seen as an indispensable part of the skincare routine. Serums are made with a high concentration of active ingredients. They are also lightweight so they penetrate deeper into your skin. Serums also have antioxidants like ceramides and amino acids that make your skin healthier.

4- Take Collagen Supplements:

Collagen is basically a protein and it is the building block of your hair, nails, and skin. Although you should ideally get it from your diet, if you think you are deficient in collagen, you can ask your doctor to prescribe a supplement. Amino acids and peptides found in amino acids boost collagen production. This, in turn, reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

5- Use Retinol:

Retinoic acid (Retin-A) and tretinoin are often prescribed by dermatologists for aging skin. Even though some retinol products are available over the counter, prescription retinoids are much more effective. Retinol boosts collagen production, thereby reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
