5 Useful Tips to Avoid Hair Loss In Winter

Winter is a dry season. The days are short and the body does not sweat naturally. As a result the water intake is reduced. The heaters or radiators in the house also dry out the moisture in the air thus causing dryness in the hair and the scalp.

The dryness is one of the main causes of hair fall in the winter. Additionally stress of holidays and the winter blues affects the health negatively. The body may not be able to maintain nutrition and thus the hair may fall out. Consult a dermatologist if you have extreme hairfall.

Here are five tips for you to control hair fall this winter.

1- Oil massages

Oils are an essential when it comes to hair care. They make the hair look shinier and feed the hair. Oils help the hair regain their nutrition making them strong. They also work against dryness and keep the scalp warm and moist during cold winter days.

Oils can also be used with a little bit of camphor. Camphor helps reduce itchiness and also help with the hair fall. Coconut oil mixed with neem can act as an anti-fungal agent and thus reduce dandruff and dryness. As a result, the hair becomes strong and hair loss is minimized.

2- Hair masks

Hair masks are a great way to deal with dryness and hair loss during winter. There are a lot of pre-packaged masks available in the market but the home made masks have the best results. One such mask is the one made up of curd and lemon.

Curd acts as a natural moisturizing agent for the hair. Adding a few drops of lemon in the curd, converts it in a natural conditioner. This conditioner reduces dryness of the scalp and controls hair fall.

Another mask that is known for restoring strength and shine of the hair is the mayonnaise mask. This mask has only two ingredients but it can work wonders to stop hair loss. Simply mix an egg with a cup of mayonnaise and apply on your hair. The oil from the mayonnaise moisturizes the hair while the egg yolk acts as a cleanser.

3- Steam

Steam is another way to regain hair moisture. Steam opens up the follicles of the hair and they can feed on nutrients in a better way. Absorbing all the nutrients that are available makes the hair strong and they do not fall over.

4- Vitamins

In winters the days are shorter. Lack of sunlight seriously hinders the production of many vitamins in the body. A vitamin deficiency can have a negative effect on your hair. The hair loses out on the nutrition and become weak. It is thud important to get vitamin supplements so that the hair loss can be avoided.

5- Shampoo

Using the right kind of shampoo is critical for hair care. For winters, select a shampoo that is high in moisture content.  Use shampoos that have strong hair fall fighting capacities rather than opting for the ones that are focused on achieving longer or straighter hair.

If you are experiencing substantial hair loss, you should visit a dermatologist as soon as possible.
