Sugar is the biggest enemy of your teeth and the extent of the damage is directly proportional to the time it stays in your mouth. Sugar is the lifeblood of the bacteria that produces acid in your mouth and this acid erodes your tooth enamel. It is recommended that you limit the use of sugary products like jelly candies that stick to your teeth for a long period of time. Instead of reaching for candies when you crave something sweet, try fresh fruit instead.
Some people tend to chew on their nails when they stressed out. This can chip teeth and affect your jaw. Pressure is exerted when you place your jaw in a protruding position for a long period of time and this has been linked to jaw dysfunction. Try to keep your nails trimmed so that you won’t be able to chew on anything. Moreover, see a counselor to calm down stress.
While everyone should brush their teeth at least twice a day, if you scrub your teeth furiously you run the danger of wearing out the enamel and make your teeth sensitive. This is counterproductive and may damage your teeth in the long run. Make sure you brush your teeth very gently and avoid rushing through the job. Brush up and down for two minutes at least to ensure your teeth are nice and clean.
The protective layer of your teeth called the enamel temporarily softens and become vulnerable to abrasive wear after you eat something acidic such as tomatoes or orange. That’s why you should wait 30 minutes after consuming something acidic to brush your teeth otherwise you can wear the enamel thin and make your teeth more sensitive.
There are a lot of health benefits of drinking lemon water such but you should exercise caution while downing a glass of lemonade. Lemon can cause dental erosion as it increases the acidic level of the mouth. Brush your teeth 30 minutes after drinking lemon water. Another way to protect your teeth is to use a straw instead of drinking directly from the glass.
