Neurobion Injection Uses

  • Used for peripheral neuropathy when B vitamin deficiency is causing nerve fiber damage and loss of normal sensation
  • Effective against tingling, numbness, and weakness in the hands and feet linked to low B1, B6, or B12 levels
  • Indicated for diabetic neuropathy, where prolonged high blood sugar depletes neurotropic vitamins over time
  • Treats nerve pain and inflammation in sciatica, lumbago, and cervical syndrome where nerve compression is present
  • Given to patients recovering from herpes zoster (shingles), where neurotropic support is needed for virus-damaged nerves
  • Corrects B vitamin deficiencies caused by poor diet, chronic illness, post-surgical recovery, or long-term medication use
  • Helpful in managing drug-induced neuropathy, particularly in patients on isoniazid or other pyridoxine-depleting medicines
  • Chosen for patients requiring faster B vitamin correction than oral supplements can provide in severe deficiency cases

Risks and warnings

  • Allergy history: Patients with a history of hypersensitivity reactions should be observed after each injection.

  • Liver disease: Liver conditions can interfere with B vitamin metabolism. Consult your doctor before starting treatment.
  • Pregnancy: The safety of Neurobion injection in pregnancy has not been fully established, used only when prescribed by a doctor.
  • Breastfeeding: B vitamins pass into breast milk; mothers on this injection are advised not to breastfeed due to unknown risks for the infant.
  • Long-term use: Using Neurobion injection for more than six months continuously may cause B6-related nerve damage; regular monitoring is recommended.
  • Pernicious anaemia: Do not use Neurobion injection to treat B12 deficiency before completing full diagnostic tests, as it may mask pernicious anaemia.
  • Driving and machinery: No known effect on the ability to drive or operate machines.

How to use Neurobion Injection?

  • Adults (severe cases): One ampoule daily by deep intramuscular injection until symptoms begin to improve.

  • Always inject deep into the buttock muscle; never inject into a vein.
  • Do not use the ampoule if the liquid looks discoloured or contains visible particles.

Drug Interactions

  • Levodopa: Pyridoxine (B6) reduces the effectiveness of Levodopa used in Parkinson's disease; avoid this combination.
  • Isoniazid, cycloserine, penicillamine, hydralazine: These drugs act as Pyridoxine antagonists and lower B6 levels in the body.

  • Proton pump inhibitors and antacids: Long-term use of acid-lowering medicines reduces B12 absorption over time.
