Hair Care: Natural And Thrifty Solutions For Luscious Locks

Beauty lies on the inside. Although this often repeated phrase rings true, it doesn’t stop us from trying to look our very best-and the hair is no exception. While beautiful-looking hair may inspire confidence in many, you don’t necessarily have to spend enormous sums on high-end hair care products or expensive salon treatments for it. Instead, read on for organic solutions to have your hair look and feel healthy:

1- Olive Oil

To strengthen your roots and prevent hair breakage, massage in ½ a cup of warm olive oil, cover your head with a plastic bag and wrap it with a towel. Wait for 45 minutes, then rinse and shampoo. For best results, leave it on overnight and rinse in the morning. If you have dry hair, add a mixture of 2 tablespoons olive oil in ½ a cup of honey to your daily hair care routine, and make sure to wait an hour before washing. For an itchy and dandruff-ridden scalp, a daily mixture of lemon juice and olive oil will work wonders.

2- Tea:

A favorite post-meal beverage, tea can also be used to impart a natural shine to the hair, prevent hair loss, and enhance hair color. So, match your tea to the shade of your hair (the darker the hair color, the darker the tea) and rinse them with a freshly brewed quart (sugar-free and without milk) after your regular shampoo.

3- Apple Cider Vinegar:

This multi-purpose ingredient not only whitens , it is also an effective scalp cleanser that repairs and revives limp and damaged hair by maintaining the scalp’s pH balance and accelerating hair growth. Mix together 1 teaspoon ACV, 3 egg whites and 2 tablespoons olive oil. Apply, cover and rinse after half an hour. For hair with an oily constitution, shampoo (and condition) your hair, then add a ½ cup of ACV to ½ a bucket of water and rinse.

4- Eggs:

A rich source of protein, adding 1 egg into your daily shampoo amount and applying it to your hair (rinse after 5 minutes) can help repair hair damage, making them soft and silky. Alternatively, mix 3 egg yolks into 1 tablespoon olive oil and 2-3 drops of vitamin E oil and rinse thoroughly with shampoo after 10-12 minutes for a weekly natural conditioning.

5- Bananas:

The high potassium content in bananas is beneficial for treating dry and damaged hair by improving their natural elasticity. Apply a mashed banana to your hair in standard shampoo fashion, i.e. from the root to tips, wait for 15 minutes, then wash with your usual shampoo.

6- Honey:

You’ve heard of honey masks for blemish-free skin, but did you know that it also serves as an efficient damage-repair and hair fall prevention remedy? Simply wash your hair daily with your usual shampoo and conditioner, with 2-3 drops of honey mixed in; or combine it with yoghurt and an egg yolk in order to provide a much-needed triple-protein boost to your dry hair.

7- Fenugreek Seeds (Methi dana):

Similar to ACV, these cooking staples maintain the hair’s pH balance and improve hair growth, along with the eradication of hair loss and dandruff. Soak 2 tablespoons of fenugreek seeds overnight, grind them into a smooth paste and apply onto your scalp.

Take your natural hair care regime one step further. Try making this shampoo and conditioner if you suffer from a bad case of dandruff and/or weak hair:

The Shampoo (For Dandruff):

Put 1/4th cup of distilled water, ½ a teaspoon of a light and natural vegetable oil (like canola or sesame), 1 tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar, 6 finely ground cloves, 3 tablespoons of fresh apple juice and 1/4th cup of liquid Castile soap (made purely with vegetable oils) into a blender and blend. Pour this mixture into a bottle and apply daily, taking care to refrigerate after use. To ensure the concoction’s effectiveness, do not store for over 3 days.

The Conditioner (For Hair Strength):

Melt 4 tablespoons of 100% natural coconut oil (as free of additives as possible) and 2 tablespoons of pure honey in a cup placed in boiling water. Pour it over your shampoo-cleansed hair and wash out most of it-about 80-90%-after keeping your hair wrapped in a towel for 20 minutes.

In addition to topical hair care, a vitamin and nutrient-rich diet is also necessary for retaining healthy, damage-free hair.
