The Health Benefits of Green Tea

Green tea is renowned all over the world as one of the healthiest types of tea. The initial processing of green tea is very similar to black tea however green tea does not go through the fermentation process which causes it to be full of antioxidants and plant-based micro nutrients that have numerous health benefits. Green tea has been proven to protect the heart, to prevent illness, and to increase brain performance, among other benefits. Following are some of these benefits of drinking green tea.

1- Heart Health

Recent research has shown that the micro nutrients found in green tea are beneficial for metabolic and cardiovascular health. It also has ACE-inhibiting properties that helps increase the blood in your body and helps maintain blood pressure.

2- Improve brain performance

Caffeine, one of the active ingredients in green tea is a known stimulant. Even though Green tea does not contain as much caffeine as coffee but it has just enough to produce the required boost without having to deal with caffeine’s fidgety effects. In addition to caffeine, it also has the amino acid L-theanine that has a relaxing effect with the ability to increase alertness, which, in combination with caffeine, can increase brain function and help you be more productive. The caffeine also mobilizes fatty acids to produce energy that helps improve physical performance.

3- Weight loss

The caffeine in green tea increases metabolism and fat oxidation that helps in digestion and fat loss. Green tea helps to maintain a moderate energy level, which may result in fewer cravings and fewer calories consumption, thereby, aiding weight loss.

4- Skincare

Drinking green tea can make your skin produce less oil, reduce your inflammation levels, and strengthen your immune system. The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities help to reduce acne and protect your skin from the sun. Green tea helps neutralize harmful radicals that cause significant damage to skin and helps to regulate the skin cells’ life cycles that improves your skin.

5- Anti-bacterial

Antioxidants in green tea can kill bacteria and germs in your mouth and also prevent viruses from entering your bloodstream. This helps improve dental health and prevent Illnesses such as flu and fever.

6- Cancer prevention

Green tea triggers our internal cancer-fighting cells and enzymes that prevent the tumor growth and may protect even against the damage caused by ultraviolet radiation. This prevents cancerous cells growth without damaging the healthy tissue around them.

According to studies, green tea does have an impact but there is no strong evidence avaialble yet. It does help in the formation of healthy cells.

Reseaerch has shown that green tea can kill cancerous cells; however it is not a surity and so it is not prescribed as such. Doctors world over do not recommend green tea, nor do they stand against its use in treating or helping treat cancer.

7- Anti-Diabetic

Green tea helps normalize your blood sugar levels and improves insulin sensitivity. Green tea has been known to lower the risk of type 2 diabetes by stabilizing the insulin sensitivity. So load up on that cup of green tea!

8- Anti-Anxiety

Theanine, a substance in green tea has a natural tranquilizing effect and helps to relax and reduce the symptoms of anxiety and depression.

9- Improve Bone strength

The antioxidants in green tea prevent the formation of cells that causes bone density loss and stimulate mineralization to generate bone formation. As green tea normalizes the blood pH levels, it also inhibits the acidity that causes bone damage.

10- Green tea and Alzheimer’s

Scientists conducted a study back in 2011 where they tested the effect of green tea on an element of Alzheimer’s disease. They studied a particular type of green tea, namely CAGTE (colon available green tea extract).

The study identified that CAGTE was indeed helpful in reducing the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. This helped back up the available research on green tea’s benefits for those at risk of Alzheimer’s. The only drawback of the study was that it tested a high amount of green tea extract, a quantity that ins’t consumed by humans nor should it be. Thus, more in-depth analysis has to be done to show whether lower dosage of green tea can also work in aiding Alzheimer patients.

Green tea also has prominent preventive effects on stress, fatigue, various skin conditions, arthritis, dental cavities, and other medical issues.

Sit back and enjoy that cup of green tea on a daily basis.
