Kick Into Remission: 5 Natural Ingredients To Cure Diabetes

Diabetes is a chronic illness currently affecting the global population at a drastically rising rate. In Pakistan, it is one of the fastest growing non-communicable disease. Not only this, a lot of mortality is caused by diabetic complications in our country every year. Thankfully is a natural cure for diabetes.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of people with diabetes has risen from 108 million in 1980 to 422 million in 2014. The global prevalence of diabetes* among adults over 18 years of age has risen from 4.7% in 1980 to 8.5% in 2014. Diabetes prevalence has been on the rise  rapidly in middle- and low-income countries. In 2016, an estimated 1.6 million deaths were directly caused by diabetes.

Another 2.2 million deaths were attributable to high blood glucose in 2012. Almost half of all deaths attributable to high blood glucose occur before the age of 70 years. WHO estimated that diabetes was the seventh leading cause of death in 2016.

Although prevention is better than cure, and one should always be mindful of one’s eating and physical activity patterns, those already diagnosed with the problem have a very little chance of curing it for good. There is however still hope and a very high probability exist that diabetic people might reach a level where they can live medication free.

In this article, we are listing down some ingredients as recommended by  Endocrinologists  that can provide  you with a natural cure for diabetes if these ingredients are added to your diet over longer periods of time.

Here are five ingredients of the natural cure for diabetes

1- Bitter Gourd

Widely known as karela and with its nomenclature being Momordica charantia, is one of the most widely known natural cure for diabetes. This unique Asian and South American native vegetable-fruit regulates glucose oxidation and insulin production-which also minimises the chances of Pancreatic Cancer by limiting the amount of available insulin to cancer cell growth and division. It also reduces the chances of other diabetic complications such as kidney and blood vessel damage, eye disorders, hormonal problems and heart complications. Drinking the juice of 2-3 bitter gourds on an empty stomach for 2 months.

2- Cloves

Cloves have been proven to destroy and prevent the growth of disease-causing microorganisms due to anthocyanins, quercetin and 30% phenol content in dry weight (raw form). They are also anti-inflammatory and are beneficial for digestive health improvement, as well as protecting the heart, liver and eye lens in diabetics.

Cloves were found to increase the uptake of sugar from the blood into cells, increase the secretion of insulin and improve the function of cells that produce insulin.

Insulin is a hormone responsible for transporting sugar from your blood into your cells. The proper functioning of insulin is essential for maintaining steady blood sugar levels.

In combination with a balanced diet, cloves could help keep your blood sugar levels in check.

3- Ginseng

Popularized by its frequent use in traditional Chinese medicine, ginseng has numerous proven health benefits, and can also aid in diabetes remission as it reduces insulin resistance and lowers HbA1C (haemoglobin A1C) levels, thereby reducing chances of diabetes related complications. Its effects on Alzheimer’s treatment are also currently being researched.

4- Jamun

Also known as ‘Indian Blackberry’, the glycoside present in this seasonal fruit aids in lowering blood glucose levels and preventing excessive insulin production, along with the prevention of various cardiovascular disorders. A daily consumption of 100 g is recommended for effective diabetes control. Alternatively, powdered seeds can also be added to a glass of warm water for similar results.

5- Turmeric

Turmeric is a common household spice which not only adds colour and flavor to many traditional South Asian foods, but also possesses antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Along with the prevention of arthritis and helping with joint-pain relief, the Curcumin in turmeric has been clinically proven to reduce plasma glucose and HbA1C levels. Moderate consumption of turmeric might also provide a boost to the immune system and help prevent infections, which many diabetics are often prone to.

While these ingredients may be beneficial for controlling, and eventually leading to a diabetes remission, it must be noted that patients cannot rely entirely upon natural remedies, and prescribed medication must be used continually alongside such treatments. Consult with your doctor before trying out any ‘natural’ meal plan, since some of these products might react negatively with your current medical prescription.

With these ingredients, there is also a chance of over doing it. Once you have gotten the go ahead from your doctor about including these ingredients in your diet, you should also stay in touch with your doctor even if your diabetes is controlled as the doctor will then move onto adjusting your dosage in order to avoid an extremely low blood sugar.
