3 Mindset Shifts That Boost Weight Loss

Nutritionists say that for effective weight loss, it is important to train the mind as well as the body. People who don’t start with a positive mindset or those who don’t train their mind, find themselves in a constant battle of weight gain and weight loss. Moreover, to cement the positive thought of weight loss and a healthy body, it is important to push out the negative thoughts that are holding you back.

According to Tori Cohen, RD, at Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center in California, a positive thinking attitude is vital for weight loss. Infact, he encourages that you should start afresh, with new goals and ambitions, even if prior attempts have failed.

This is an important tool, because most of us learn from our past mistakes and if deep down we know that we were unsuccessful before, then we might be unsuccessful again. So here are a few mindset shift tips that can help you with your weight loss goals.

1-Overcome the fear:

In weight-loss journey, the fear is real. The fear of the scale; fear of the doctor; fear of meeting people; fear of not fitting in clothes; fear of being embarrassed. The more fear there is, the more detrimental it is to the whole journey of weight loss. Therefore, instead of the fear driving us, we need to take the wheel, and steer the fear.

One way to overcome the fear is to set a physical goal that you are afraid you can’t achieve. Don’t choose multiple goals, or goals that are too extreme—find a middle ground between attainable and extreme that you can achieve. You would find motivation within yourself as you grow closer to your goal. It could be anything, big or small—a five mile run or a ten mile run every day, a 3 mile swim or 5 mile swim, you can choose whatever you’re scared of, and overcome it.

2-Celebrate your success:

Once you have set the goal you are scared of, put yourself all in. If you start with a positive outlook and choose to look past your weaknesses, you would be surprised by how much you can achieve. You would find motivation in yourself and once you achieve a milestone, do celebrate your success.

Set smaller milestone so that you have more reasons to celebrate. As Tori Cohen says, every positive move towards your goal would motivate you, and that’s the key to moving forward.

3-Don’t get stuck:

Everyone in the weight loss journey knows it’s easy to get stuck. In fact, it is easier still to fall into a downward spiral if you don’t hit your target. But the key to prevent this is to take motivation from your successes and moving forward. If your self-esteem takes a beating, don’t mourn with a dessert or a snack—take a lesson from your setback and get back on track. The journey is not about how fast you can achieve your goal—remember, slow and steady wins the race.

Everybody’s weight loss journey is different; the key to being successful is to be persistent and patient. Have a positive outlook, stay focused on your goal, and find motivation through your own success.
