Q.1. What problems are treated by a gynecologist?

In Pakistan, a gynecologist is only associated with childbirth and its associated problems. However, it couldn’t be further from the truth. Women go through many phases in their lives and may develop conditions or have queries that need the assistance of a gynecologist or an obstetrician.

Such conditions include all kinds of menstrual problems and irregularities. Another condition treated by a gynecologist is abnormal leukorrhea ( vaginal discharge). Moreover, gynecologists also treat issues related to intimacy, sex and sexual intercourse.

Pregnancy and pregnancy-related problems, infertility issues and treatment are also some issues and conditions gynecologists treat.

If a woman already has a medical condition such as anaemia, hypertension, diabetes, epilepsy, thyroid problems, hepatitis, jaundice, tuberculosis, or any other infection, she must confide in her gynecologist. A gynecologist can guide her what the effect of these conditions can have on the progression of her pregnancy.

Gynecologists also treat delivery issues, problems during the lactation and postpartum periods and, breastfeeding problems.

We also provide guidance on the right method of contraception for you and the right family planning methods. In addition to this, gynecologist also treats gynecological tumours and cancers, including uterine, breast and cervical cancer.

Menopause, that signals the end of a woman’s reproductive cycle is sometimes seen as the end of a woman’s life, however, with problem management, it is nothing but a milestone in a woman’s life. A gynecologist can guide a woman on how to properly manage menopause symptoms and improve the quality of life.

Problems of the urinary tract such as UV prolapse, bacterial infections and urinary tract infections are also treated by a gynecologist.
