What Experts Say
Voren contains Diclofenac Sodium, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that blocks the cyclooxygenase 1 and 2 enzymes needed to produce prostaglandins. Since prostaglandins drive pain, swelling, and fever during inflammation, blocking their production addresses all three symptoms together rather than pain alone.
Unlike the potassium salt form of Diclofenac used in some faster acting products, the sodium salt in Voren is formulated as an enteric coated tablet. This coating delays the tablet from dissolving until it passes through the stomach, reducing direct contact with the stomach lining and suiting it to routine, longer term anti-inflammatory use.
Because the coating controls where the tablet dissolves, it should never be split, crushed, or chewed, since doing so releases the full dose at once and removes the coating's protective effect. Diclofenac is metabolized in the liver and its byproducts are cleared mainly through the kidneys and bile.

Drug Interactions
Diclofenac has a well documented interaction profile as an NSAID. The following should be noted:
- Anticoagulants and Antiplatelets: Combining Diclofenac with Warfarin, Aspirin, or Clopidogrel increases the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding.
- ACE Inhibitors and Diuretics: Diclofenac may reduce the effectiveness of these blood pressure medicines and increase strain on the kidneys.
- Lithium: Diclofenac can raise blood Lithium levels, increasing the risk of toxicity.
- Methotrexate: Diclofenac may increase Methotrexate blood levels, raising the risk of toxicity, particularly at higher doses.
Risks and warnings
- Cardiovascular risk: Diclofenac can increase the risk of heart attack and stroke, especially with higher doses or prolonged use.
- Gastrointestinal bleeding: Older adults face a higher risk of stomach bleeding and ulcers, which can be fatal.
- Kidney disease: Diclofenac can worsen kidney function, so regular monitoring is advised during long term treatment.
- Fertility: Diclofenac may temporarily reduce female fertility and should be stopped if pregnancy is being planned or investigated.
- Pregnancy: Voren should be avoided, especially in the third trimester, since NSAIDs can affect fetal heart circulation and delay labor.
- Liver disease: Voren should be used cautiously in patients with significant impairment, with periodic liver function checks during long term use.
- Children: Voren is not usually recommended for children under 18 unless specifically prescribed, except in specialist managed juvenile arthritis.
