About Risek Insta Sachet 20mg
Risek Sachet is a fast acting proton pump inhibitor powder used to relieve heartburn and acid reflux.
Risek Sachet Uses
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) presenting with recurring heartburn and acid regurgitation.
- Duodenal and gastric ulcers linked to excess stomach acid production.
- Acid related dyspepsia causing upper abdominal discomfort after eating.
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, a rare condition in which tumors cause the stomach to produce excessive acid.
- Prevention of stress related ulcers in patients who are acutely unwell.
- Helicobacter pylori related ulcers, used alongside antibiotics as part of eradication therapy.
Risek Sachet Benefits
- Dissolves in water for patients who have difficulty swallowing capsules or tablets whole.
- The added Sodium Bicarbonate raises stomach pH quickly, which protects the Omeprazole from being broken down by acid before it is absorbed.
- Provides faster symptom relief than standard delayed release Omeprazole capsules.
- Simple once daily dosing supports long term consistency in acid control.
- Suitable for patients who need acid suppression through a feeding tube, since the powder can be dispersed in water.
- Familiar Omeprazole based acid suppression in a different, faster acting delivery format.
What Experts Say
Risek Sachet combines Omeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor that irreversibly blocks the hydrogen potassium ATPase enzyme in the stomach lining, with Sodium Bicarbonate, an alkalinizing agent that neutralizes acid on contact. Omeprazole alone breaks down quickly in an acidic environment, so enteric coated capsules normally protect it until it reaches the small intestine.
In Risek Sachet, the Sodium Bicarbonate raises stomach pH immediately after the sachet is dissolved and swallowed, which protects the uncoated Omeprazole long enough for it to be absorbed. This is why the sachet form tends to act faster than standard delayed release Omeprazole capsules, making it useful when quicker symptom relief is needed.
Omeprazole is metabolized in the liver and its byproducts are cleared mainly through the kidneys, while the Sodium Bicarbonate is absorbed and processed separately by the body's acid base regulation system. Patients on a sodium restricted diet or with kidney impairment should discuss this formulation with a doctor before regular use.

Drug Interactions
Omeprazole and Sodium Bicarbonate together affect the absorption of several other medicines. The following should be noted:
- Ketoconazole and Atazanavir: Reduced stomach acid lowers the absorption of these medicines, which may reduce their effectiveness.
- Digoxin: Risek Sachet can raise Digoxin blood levels, so closer monitoring is advised.
- Warfarin: Concurrent use may affect Warfarin's anticoagulant effect and requires closer monitoring.
- Diazepam and Other Benzodiazepines: Omeprazole can raise blood levels of these medicines, increasing their sedative effect.
Risks and warnings
- Sodium intake: Each sachet contributes a notable amount of sodium, so patients with heart failure, high blood pressure, or a sodium restricted diet should use caution.
- Kidney disease: Sodium Bicarbonate is used cautiously in patients with reduced kidney function, since it can affect the body's acid base balance.
- Long-term use: Continuous daily use for a year or longer has been linked to a higher risk of low vitamin B12, low magnesium, and bone fractures.
- Milk-alkali syndrome: Combining Risek Sachet with large amounts of calcium or milk over a long period can raise the risk of this rare but serious condition.
- Pregnancy: Risek Sachet should only be used during pregnancy when the expected benefit clearly outweighs the potential risk.
- Breastfeeding: Omeprazole passes into breast milk in small amounts, so a doctor should be consulted before use while nursing.
- Elderly patients: Older adults face a higher risk of bone fractures and intestinal infections with long term use and should be monitored accordingly.
