Warts result from a viral infection in the upper skin layer by the human papilloma virus, or HPV. The virus can invade the outer skin layer via tiny scratches. We all come into contact with HPV during daily tasks like typing on keyboards, turning doorknobs, using mobile phones, sharing towels and personal care items or shaking hands. Warts are of different types: common warts, flat warts, plantar warts, filiform warts, and genital warts. They are contagious  and can affect any part of the body. Usually, they disappear after a short time but some stubborn warts may take years.  They are usually painless, but can be quite embarrassing or irritating. Treating warts requires patience, and some of them can’t be treated. The variety in treatment of warts evinces that they have no best single treatment. Some commonly used treatments include: using duct tape, salicylic acid preparations and freezing kits. The following is a list of remedies for warts:

1- Prevention is better

Beware of touching warts as they are transmissible from person to person.  They can also spread around your own body by self-inoculation. If you touch your wart and then touch another part of your body without washing your hands, a new wart can pop up several days later.

2- Pineapple and papaya

Directly apply fresh pineapple to the wart several times a day. The natural acids and enzymes will help remove the wart in few days. Papaya also has the ability to digest the dead tissues. Prepare a paste of papaya pulp with water and apply it to the wart overnight and see the result!

 3- Garlic

Garlic paste is one of the best remedies for warts as it causes the wart to shrivel and fall off. Just apply the paste to the wart and put a bandage on it. Do this regularly until the wart is completely gone. Use new garlic paste each time to avoid healthy skin getting damaged.

4- Boost your immune system

Any viral disease can easily be avoided by boosting your immunity. The increased ability to fight off such viruses will keep you healthy. So since a weak immune system is the main culprit, boost your immune system by maintaining a healthy diet, sleeping soundly and exercising regularly.

5- Lemon and banana peel

Taping a piece of banana peel over the wart, with its inner side down on the wart, can magically dissolve it. You can do that before going to bed and keeping it overnight. The same can be done with a lemon peel as the acidity slowly removes the wart.

6- Pure castor oil

Pure castor oil stops the virus from spreading and affecting other parts of the skin. Rubbing the castor oil on the infected area will remove the warts.  You can also try to apply a paste of castor oil and baking powder to the warts. Leaving this paste to work at night after covering it with a bandage can get rid of the warts in few days.

7- Vitamins

Vitamin C and vitamin E tablets are also effective in removing warts. Just crush the tablet and make a paste by adding water to the powder and apply it to the warts. After several days, the warts will be gone.

8- Aloe Vera

Everyone knows about the magic of this plant. Aloe Vera contains malic acid which is quite helpful in fighting the virus. You just need to take a leaf, squeeze a few drops of gel over the infected skin and put a bandage on it. Repeated attempts will get rid of the virus.

9- Hot water

When warts appear on the bottom of your feet they are very painful and make it hard to walk.  Now it has scientifically been shown that warts are sensitive to heat, so you may get rid of them just by soaking your feet in hot water repetitively over a few weeks.

10- Essential Oil

Applying lemon and cypress essential oils on the affected area is one of the effective remedies for warts. Their anti-viral properties shrink the warts successfully.

11- Tea tree oil

A powerful antimicrobial remedy is tea tree oil. Its antiviral properties may help to eliminate warts, whereas it can also be used to treat skin conditions, such as acne, athlete’s foot, and several other skin infections.

According to some methods diluted tea tree oil should be applied on the wart. The dilution is essential as undiluted oil can cause skin irritations.

To dilute, mix 1 to 2 drops of tea tree oil with 12 drops of a carrier oil, such as almond oil or castor oil. After that add 3 to 4 drops of this mix to a cotton ball and place it on the wart for about 5 to 10 minutes. Repeat this process 2 to 3 times a day.

If irritations are still disturbing you, then you should dilute the oil more.

If the problem retains despite using the above remedies for warts, get help from a professional.
