What Experts Say
Endocrinologists note that calcium and vitamin D3 work as a pair in bone health. Calcium builds and maintains the mineral framework of bone, while cholecalciferol raises calcium absorption from the gut. Without enough vitamin D, much of the calcium taken in food or supplements passes through unabsorbed. Combined tablets close both gaps in a single daily dose.
Nutrition surveys in Pakistan report widespread vitamin D deficiency and low dietary calcium intake, especially among women, older adults, and people with limited sun exposure. Clinicians therefore favor combined supplementation for postmenopausal women, pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, and elderly patients at higher risk of fractures.
Experts advise taking calcium after meals to improve absorption and tolerability. They caution against exceeding recommended amounts, since long term excess can raise blood calcium and strain the kidneys. Supplements support, but do not replace, a balanced diet and regular weight bearing exercise.

- Levothyroxine: Calcium reduces thyroid hormone absorption and should be taken at least 4 hours apart.
- Thiazide diuretics: Reduce calcium excretion and can raise blood calcium when combined.
- Digoxin: High calcium levels can increase the risk of irregular heart rhythm.
- Iron and zinc supplements: Calcium can lower their absorption, so take them at separate times.
Risks and warnings
- High blood calcium: Do not use in hypercalcemia or conditions that raise calcium levels.
- Kidney stones: Ask your doctor first if you have a history of calcium kidney stones.
- Kidney disease: People with reduced kidney function should seek medical advice before use.
