Alzilo Tablet 20mg / 120mg Benefits

- Slows the breakdown of dopamine in the brain, supporting smoother movement control.
- Can reduce the total daily dose of levodopa needed in combination therapy.
- May help shorten daily off time in patients with motor fluctuations.
What Experts Say
Rasagiline works by selectively inhibiting monoamine oxidase type B, the enzyme responsible for breaking down dopamine in the brain. By blocking this pathway, more dopamine remains available at nerve synapses, which helps ease the tremor, rigidity and slowness that define Parkinson's disease.
Neurologists often prefer a selective MAO-B inhibitor early in the disease course because it carries a lower risk of the dietary tyramine reaction seen with older, non selective MAO inhibitors. Even so, physicians still advise caution with certain antidepressants and opioid pain medicines, since combining these drug classes can raise the risk of serotonin syndrome.
When added to levodopa in more advanced disease, rasagiline extends the on time patients experience each day by slowing dopamine breakdown between levodopa doses. Movement specialists typically monitor blood pressure, mood and liver function during treatment, since sudden drops in blood pressure and mood changes have been reported with this drug class.
