Drug Interactions

- Ketoconazole: This antifungal raises buspirone concentration in the blood and may require a dose reduction.
- Diltiazem and verapamil: These heart medicines can increase buspirone levels, making side effects more likely.

- CNS depressants (sedatives, sleeping pills): Combining these with buspirone may cause excessive drowsiness.
- MAO inhibitors (phenelzine, tranylcypromine): Combining these with buspirone can cause a dangerous and potentially life-threatening reaction.
Risks and warnings
- MAO inhibitor use: A gap of at least 14 days is required after stopping an MAO inhibitor before the Benzodep tablet can be safely started.
- Serotonin syndrome risk: Patients taking other serotonin-affecting medicines must be monitored closely for agitation, rapid heartbeat, or muscle twitching.
