• One tablet is swallowed first thing in the morning on an empty stomach with a full glass of plain water.
• The person stays upright, sitting or standing, for at least thirty minutes after the tablet.
• No food, other drinks or other medicines are taken during that thirty minute period.
• A missed dose is skipped and the next dose is taken the following morning as usual.

Drug Interactions

• Calcium supplements: Taken at a different time of day since calcium reduces Alendronate absorption.
• Antacids: Should not be taken close to the dose since they lower absorption.
• Aspirin and NSAIDs: Combined use can raise the risk of stomach irritation.
• Iron and multivitamin tablets: Best spaced apart by at least thirty minutes from this tablet.

Risks and warnings

• Esophagus problems: Not suitable for patients with swallowing difficulty or certain esophagus conditions.
