About Brivera Tablet 25mg
Brivera Tablet 25mg is an anticonvulsant containing brivaracetam, used to treat partial onset seizures in epilepsy.
Brivera Tablet 25mg Uses
- Add on treatment of partial onset (focal) seizures in adults and adolescents with epilepsy
- Used alongside another anti epileptic drug when seizures are not fully controlled on one medicine
- Prescribed for long term seizure management under a neurologist's supervision
- Sometimes used as a switch option for patients who cannot tolerate the mood related side effects of levetiracetam
Brivera Tablet 25mg Benefits
- Reduces the frequency of focal seizures when added to existing epilepsy treatment
- Absorbed quickly after an oral dose, allowing it to start acting within a short time
- Available in tablet form for convenient twice daily dosing
- Generally associated with fewer behavioral side effects compared to some older anti epileptic drugs
What Experts Say
Brivaracetam binds selectively to synaptic vesicle protein 2A in nerve terminals across the brain. This action calms the abnormal, excessive electrical signaling between neurons that triggers a seizure. Its high selectivity sets it apart from many older anti-epileptic drugs that act more broadly on the nervous system.
Doctors usually start brivaracetam at a low dose and adjust it gradually based on seizure control and tolerance. It is taken twice daily as an add on therapy alongside an existing anti-epileptic drug. Regular monitoring for mood changes, unusual behavior, and allergic reactions is recommended, along with periodic checks of kidney and liver function where needed.
Epilepsy is a significant neurological concern across Pakistan, and many patients do not reach full seizure control on one medicine alone. Physicians across Pakistan increasingly add brivaracetam when seizures persist or when older drugs cause troublesome side effects. Doctors stress that the dose should never be stopped suddenly, since abrupt withdrawal can worsen seizures.
