What Experts Say
Captopril blocks the angiotensin converting enzyme, which stops the body from turning angiotensin I into angiotensin II. This relaxes blood vessels, lowers blood pressure and eases the workload on the heart. Its short half life gives a fast onset of action but also means multiple daily doses are usually needed to keep blood pressure controlled through the day.
Doctors usually start Capoten Tablet 25mg at a low dose and increase it slowly while checking blood pressure, kidney function and potassium levels. Taking it on an empty stomach improves absorption. Regular monitoring helps catch a dry cough, high potassium or a drop in kidney function early, so the dose can be adjusted before problems develop.
Hypertension and heart failure are common in Pakistan, often linked to diets high in salt and low rates of routine blood pressure checks. Doctors in Pakistan frequently prescribe captopril because it is affordable and effective, though patients need proper counseling on missed doses, salt intake and follow up blood tests for safe long term use.
