Cefidon Syrup Uses
- Prescribed for urinary tract infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including bladder and kidney infections
- Used to treat throat infections such as pharyngitis and tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus bacteria
- Effective for ear infections (otitis media) in children and adults when bacteria are the cause
- Recommended for chest infections, including acute bronchitis, when a bacterial cause is confirmed
- Used to treat typhoid fever and enteric fever, both common bacterial illnesses in Pakistan
- Helpful for uncomplicated gonorrhea caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae when prescribed by a doctor
- Targets gram-negative and some gram-positive bacterial species responsible for respiratory tract infections
Dosages of Cefidon Syrup
- Adults: 100mg to 200mg per dose, taken every 12 to 24 hours as directed by a doctor
- Maximum daily dose: 400mg (80ml of the 100mg/5ml suspension)
- The dose for children is based on body weight, typically 8mg per kg per day in one or two divided doses
- Children under 6 months of age should not be given Cefidon syrup without direct medical supervision
How to use Cefidon Syrup ?
- Cefidon syrup can be taken with or without food
- Shake the bottle well before every dose and measure using the provided spoon or syringe.
- Complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve before the medicine runs out.
- A higher strength is available for patients who require a larger daily dose, as advised by a doctor.

Drug Interactions
- Warfarin: Cefidon syrup can increase warfarin's blood-thinning effect, raising the risk of unusual bleeding.
- Carbamazepine: Cefixime may raise carbamazepine levels in the blood, increasing the risk of dizziness and seizures.
- Probenecid: This gout medicine slows the kidneys' excretion of cefixime, causing it to accumulate at higher levels.
- Live bacterial vaccines: Cefidon syrup interacts with live vaccines such as BCG and cholera vaccines; complete any vaccinations before starting the antibiotic course.
- Nephrotoxic medicines: Medicines that affect kidney function may become more harmful when used alongside Cefidon syrup.
Contraindications
- Known allergy to cefixime or any other ingredient in the suspension
- History of severe allergic reaction to penicillin or other cephalosporin antibiotics
- Confirmed Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD) is currently being treated
- Patients with known kidney failure should not use Cefidon syrup without medical approval and dose adjustment

Storage Conditions
- Store at room temperature, below 30°C
- Keep away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture
