About Cefidon Syrup
Cefidon syrup is used to treat bacterial infections. It works by breaking down the protective cell wall of bacteria.
Cefidon Syrup Uses
- Prescribed for urinary tract infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including bladder and kidney infections
- Used to treat throat infections such as pharyngitis and tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus bacteria
- Effective for ear infections (otitis media) in children and adults when bacteria are the cause
- Recommended for chest infections, including acute bronchitis, when a bacterial cause is confirmed
- Used to treat typhoid fever and enteric fever, both common bacterial illnesses in Pakistan
- Helpful for uncomplicated gonorrhea caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae when prescribed by a doctor
- Targets gram-negative and some gram-positive bacterial species responsible for respiratory tract infections

How to use Cefidon Syrup ?
- Cefidon syrup can be taken with or without food
- Shake the bottle well before every dose and measure using the provided spoon or syringe.
- Complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve before the medicine runs out.
- A higher strength is available for patients who require a larger daily dose, as advised by a doctor.
Contraindications
- Known allergy to cefixime or any other ingredient in the suspension
- History of severe allergic reaction to penicillin or other cephalosporin antibiotics
- Confirmed Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD) is currently being treated
- Patients with known kidney failure should not use Cefidon syrup without medical approval and dose adjustment
Drug Interactions
- Warfarin: Cefidon syrup can increase warfarin's blood-thinning effect, raising the risk of unusual bleeding.
- Carbamazepine: Cefixime may raise carbamazepine levels in the blood, increasing the risk of dizziness and seizures.
- Probenecid: This gout medicine slows the kidneys' excretion of cefixime, causing it to accumulate at higher levels.
- Live bacterial vaccines: Cefidon syrup interacts with live vaccines such as BCG and cholera vaccines; complete any vaccinations before starting the antibiotic course.
- Nephrotoxic medicines: Medicines that affect kidney function may become more harmful when used alongside Cefidon syrup.
Risks and warnings
- Penicillin allergy: A history of penicillin allergy increases the risk of a cross-reaction; always mention this to your doctor before starting Cefidon syrup.
- Kidney disease: Cefixime is cleared through the kidneys, so patients with reduced kidney function may need a lower dose and closer monitoring.
- Liver disease: Patients with liver conditions may have a higher risk of side effects and should use Cefidon syrup with caution.
- Prolonged antibiotic use: Using any antibiotic for too long can lead to fungal overgrowth or secondary bacterial infections, including C. difficile colitis.
- Diabetes: Cefidon syrup can cause a false-positive result in some urine glucose tests; inform your doctor or laboratory before testing.
- Blood clotting disorders: Patients with bleeding conditions face a higher risk when taking cefixime alongside blood-thinning medicines.
- Pregnancy: Cefidon is generally considered safe in pregnancy but should only be used when clearly needed and prescribed by a doctor.
- Breastfeeding: Cefidon may pass into breast milk; a doctor should review the risks before prescribing it to nursing mothers.
- Elderly patients: Older adults may have slower kidney function and may require an adjusted dose for safe use.
- Driving and machinery: Cefidon syrup is not known to impair driving, but dizziness is a possible side effect and should be monitored.

Storage Conditions
- Store at room temperature, below 30°C
- Keep away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture
- After mixing (reconstituting) the suspension, use within 7 days and store in a cool place
- Keep out of reach of children and pets
