Naphazoline hydrochloride belongs to the sympathomimetic amine class of decongestants. It works by narrowing the small blood vessels on the surface of the eye, which reduces the redness that appears when the eyes are irritated, tired or exposed to allergens. This vasoconstrictor action usually produces visible relief within a few minutes of application.

Ophthalmologists generally consider naphazoline safe for short term, occasional use in healthy adults. Continuous use beyond a few days can lead to rebound redness, where the blood vessels dilate again once the drug wears off, making the eyes appear more irritated than before treatment started. For this reason, most clinical guidance limits use to no more than three or four days without medical advice.

Caution is advised in people with narrow angle glaucoma, uncontrolled high blood pressure, an overactive thyroid or heart rhythm problems, since naphazoline can be absorbed systemically in small amounts. Children, especially infants, are more sensitive to its effects and should only use it under medical supervision.

How to use Curine Eye Drops?

• Instill one to two drops in the affected eye
• Repeat up to three times a day as needed
• Wash hands before use and avoid touching the dropper tip to the eye or any surface
• Remove contact lenses before applying and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting
• Do not use for more than three consecutive days unless advised by a doctor

Drug Interactions

• Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors: Concurrent use with MAOI medicines may increase the risk of a significant rise in blood pressure
• Other Eye Drops: Space Curine Eye Drops at least 5 to 10 minutes apart from any other eye drops to prevent one from washing out the other
• Contact Lenses: Remove soft contact lenses before use and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them
