Cyproterone Acetate 2mg + Ethinylestradiol 35mcg per tablet
How to use Cyprodiol Tablet?
- Cyprodiol tablet can be taken with or without food
- Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water, without crushing or chewing
- A new 21-day course begins after the 7-day tablet-free interval
- Each course must begin on the same day of the week to maintain hormonal continuity
- This medicine should not be stopped suddenly without discussing it with your doctor first
Contraindications
- Known allergy to cyproterone acetate, ethinylestradiol, or any other ingredient in the tablet
- History of blood clots in the legs, lungs, or any other organ
- Current or past history of stroke or heart attack
- Uncontrolled high blood pressure
- Severe liver disease or a history of liver tumours
- Active or past history of breast cancer or any hormone-sensitive cancer
- Unexplained vaginal bleeding not yet diagnosed
- Migraine with aura, as this increases stroke risk with hormonal medicines
- Current pregnancy or planned pregnancy
- Women who are breastfeeding
Drug Interactions
- Rifampicin: reduces the effectiveness of Cyprodiol tablets significantly and may cause contraceptive failure.
- Phenytoin, carbamazepine, and phenobarbital: these anticonvulsants speed up how the body breaks down Cyprodiol tablet
- Griseofulvin: this antifungal medicine may reduce the hormonal effect of Cyprodiol tablet
- Ritonavir and other HIV medicines: can alter hormone levels when taken with Cyprodiol tablet
- St John's Wort: This herbal supplement reduces the effectiveness of hormonal medicines including Cyprodiol tablet
- Lamotrigine: Cyprodiol tablet may lower lamotrigine levels in the blood, increasing seizure risk in women with epilepsy
- Cyclosporine: taking Cyprodiol tablet alongside cyclosporine may raise cyclosporine levels to harmful levels
Risks and warnings
- Blood clot risk: Cyprodiol tablet raises the risk of deep vein thrombosis, especially during the first year of use
- Smoking: women who smoke, particularly those over 35, face a much higher cardiovascular risk on this medicine
- High blood pressure: this medicine must be taken with caution if blood pressure is borderline or elevated
- Migraines: new or worsening migraines after starting treatment require immediate medical review
- Liver monitoring: liver function should be checked regularly during long-term use of Cyprodiol tablet
- Planned surgery: this medicine should be stopped 4 to 6 weeks before any major operation to reduce clot risk
- Diabetes: blood glucose levels may be affected and require closer monitoring during treatment
- Pregnancy: Cyprodiol tablet must not be taken during pregnancy as it can affect foetal development
- Breastfeeding: this medicine passes into breast milk and is not recommended for nursing mothers
- Elderly patients: Cyprodiol tablet is indicated only for women of reproductive age and is not suitable after menopause

- Nausea, especially in the first few weeks of treatment
- Breast tenderness or swelling
- Headaches or mild dizziness
- Mood changes, including low mood or irritability
- Reduced sex drive
- Breakthrough bleeding or spotting between periods
- Weight changes
- Fluid retention
- Skin reactions such as rash or increased sun sensitivity
- Reduced contact lens tolerance in some women
- Leg pain, swelling, or redness that may signal a blood clot
- Sudden severe headache or vision changes that may signal a stroke
