What Experts Say
Naproxen works by blocking cyclooxygenase enzymes, which lowers production of prostaglandins that trigger pain, swelling and fever. This non selective COX inhibition explains both its efficacy and its gastrointestinal risk profile.
Physicians recommend taking this plain immediate release formulation with food to reduce stomach irritation, since Naproxen carries a moderate ulcer risk compared with some newer NSAIDs. Its longer half life allows twice daily dosing, which supports better adherence than shorter acting NSAIDs that need three or four daily doses.
Doctors across Pakistan monitor renal function and blood pressure in patients on regular Naproxen, particularly those with pre existing kidney disease or hypertension. Pakistan carries a high burden of undiagnosed chronic kidney disease, so periodic renal screening during prolonged NSAID therapy is a standard precaution physicians recommend.
