About Dormicum Tablet 7.5mg
Dormicum Tablet 7.5mg contains Midazolam, a benzodiazepine used briefly for severe sleep problems.
Uses
- Short-term treatment of severe, disabling insomnia
- Sedation before a minor procedure or diagnostic test
- Pre-medication before anesthesia in some surgical settings
Benefits
- Helps patients fall asleep faster during a short, difficult episode of insomnia
- Reduces anxiety and eases cooperation before a scheduled procedure
- Short-acting profile means less next-day grogginess than some older sedatives
- Tablet form allows controlled, measured oral dosing under a doctor's plan
What Experts Say
Doctors in Pakistan reserve Midazolam tablets for short courses, usually two to four weeks at most, because benzodiazepines lose effectiveness for sleep with continued use and carry a real risk of tolerance building up quickly. Physicians typically start with the lowest dose that works and review the response within the first week of treatment.
Physicians assess whether a patient has any history of substance misuse, anxiety disorder, or breathing problems before prescribing it, since Midazolam tablets carry meaningful dependence and withdrawal potential even at standard doses when taken beyond a few weeks. Elderly patients are usually started on a lower dose because sedation and falls risk rise with age.
Experts also caution patients never to stop a longer course abruptly, since sudden discontinuation can trigger rebound insomnia, anxiety, or withdrawal seizures, and instead recommend a gradual, medically supervised taper. Combining it with alcohol or opioid painkillers is strongly discouraged, since the sedative effect can compound dangerously.

- Take exactly as prescribed by the doctor, usually one tablet at bedtime
- Swallow the tablet whole with water, right before going to bed
- Do not take with or immediately after a heavy or fatty meal, since it slows absorption
- Use only for the number of days the doctor advises, typically a short course

Drug Interactions
- Opioids: Combined use significantly increases the risk of severe sedation and dangerous respiratory depression
- Other CNS depressants: Other benzodiazepines, barbiturates, and sedating antihistamines add to drowsiness and slow breathing further
- Alcohol: Sharply increases sedation and the risk of respiratory depression, should be avoided completely during treatment
- CYP3A4 inhibitors: Antifungals such as itraconazole and ketoconazole, and antibiotics such as erythromycin and clarithromycin, raise Midazolam levels and prolong sedation
- Grapefruit juice: Can raise blood levels of Midazolam through the same enzyme pathway, so it is best avoided
- Protease inhibitors: Certain HIV medicines such as ritonavir can markedly increase Midazolam exposure
Risks and warnings
- Controlled substance: Midazolam tablets are a Schedule-controlled benzodiazepine in Pakistan, sold only against a valid prescription with special narcotics documentation
- Dependence and withdrawal risk: Even at normal doses, use beyond two to four weeks can lead to physical dependence, and stopping suddenly can cause withdrawal, rebound insomnia, or seizures
- Respiratory depression: Higher doses, elderly patients, or those with existing lung or breathing problems face a real risk of slowed or suppressed breathing
- Opioid and alcohol combination danger: Taking it with opioids, alcohol, or other sedatives can cause profound sedation, breathing failure, coma, or death
- Strict medical supervision: Requires a doctor's ongoing review before, during, and after use, never for casual or repeated self-directed use
- Not for long-term or unsupervised use: Not intended as a routine sleep aid, and should never be shared or used without a current prescription
