Cefadroxil belongs to the first generation cephalosporin class and works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to penicillin binding proteins on the cell wall, blocking cross linking of peptidoglycan chains. This weakens the wall and causes the bacteria to rupture, making the drug bactericidal rather than bacteriostatic.

Its long elimination half life allows twice daily dosing, which is uncommon among cephalosporins and helps adherence during treatment. Cefadroxil is excreted almost entirely unchanged by the kidneys, so patients with reduced renal function need dose adjustments to prevent drug accumulation. It shows partial cross reactivity with penicillins since both share the same beta lactam ring.

• Take Dromax Tablet 1gm exactly as prescribed by the doctor, usually every 12 hours

Drug Interactions

• Probenecid: Raises Cefadroxil blood levels by slowing its removal through the kidneys.
