About Epliron Tablet 50mg
Epliron Tablet 50mg lowers blood pressure and eases strain on the heart by blocking aldosterone.
Epliron Tablet Uses
- Treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension)
- Management of chronic heart failure with reduced heart pumping function
- Reducing cardiovascular death and hospital admission after a heart attack

Epliron Tablet Benefits
- Lowers blood pressure by blocking aldosterone receptors in the kidney
- Eases the workload on a weakened heart in heart failure patients
- Reduces the risk of hospitalization and death after a heart attack
- Carries a lower risk of hormonal side effects than older aldosterone blockers
- Supports better long term survival when combined with standard heart failure therapy
What Experts Say
Eplerenone works by selectively blocking the mineralocorticoid receptor, the site where aldosterone acts in the kidney and heart tissue. By reducing aldosterone's effects, it limits sodium and water retention while helping the body hold onto a healthier potassium balance.
Large clinical trials in heart failure and post heart attack patients have shown that Eplerenone reduces the risk of cardiovascular death and hospital admission when added to standard therapy. Its selective action means fewer hormonal side effects than older aldosterone blockers, which improves long term treatment adherence.
Because Eplerenone raises potassium levels, doctors usually check kidney function and blood potassium before starting treatment and at regular intervals afterward. Careful dose titration allows most patients to reach effective blood pressure control while keeping electrolyte levels within a safe range.
Drug Class
- Selective aldosterone receptor antagonist (mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist)

Drug Interactions
- Potassium Supplements: Combining increases the risk of dangerous hyperkalemia.
- ACE Inhibitors And ARBs: Concurrent use raises potassium levels further and needs close monitoring.
- Potassium Sparing Diuretics: Combined use with drugs like spironolactone or amiloride increases hyperkalemia risk.
- Strong CYP3A4 Inhibitors: Ketoconazole, itraconazole, clarithromycin and ritonavir can raise Eplerenone blood levels significantly and are generally avoided together.
- NSAIDs: Regular use can reduce the blood pressure lowering effect and increase kidney strain.
- Lithium: Eplerenone may increase lithium levels, raising the risk of toxicity.
Risks and warnings
- Hyperkalemia Risk: Eplerenone can raise blood potassium to dangerous levels, especially in patients with kidney disease or those taking potassium supplements.
- Kidney Function: Use with caution in patients with impaired kidney function since dose adjustment or avoidance may be needed.
- Liver Impairment: Use cautiously in patients with moderate liver impairment due to altered drug clearance.
- Pregnancy And Breastfeeding: Safety data is limited, so use only if clearly needed and under medical supervision.
- Drug Combination Caution: Avoid combining with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors, which can significantly raise Eplerenone blood levels.
