- Used for contraception to prevent unwanted pregnancy in women of reproductive age
- Effective in managing irregular or painful menstrual periods
- Indicated for abnormal uterine bleeding in non-pregnant women

- Advised for pain relief associated with endometriosis
- Treats excessive or unwanted facial and body hair (hirsutism) in women
- Approved for managing symptoms linked to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)

Estranor Tablet formula
Estradiol Valerate 2mg + Norgestrel 0.5mg
How to use Estranor Tablet?
- Estranor tablet can be taken with or without food
- Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water, without crushing or chewing.
- Begin the first tablet on the first day of your menstrual cycle or as directed by your doctor.
- After 21 days of active tablets, take a 7-day break before starting a new pack.
- Do not stop this medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor
Contraindications
- Known allergy to estradiol valerate, norgestrel, or any ingredient in the tablet
- Current or past history of blood clots in the legs, lungs, or elsewhere
- History of stroke, heart attack, or coronary artery disease
- Active liver disease or a history of liver tumours
- Undiagnosed vaginal or uterine bleeding
- Current or suspected pregnancy
- History of breast, uterine, cervical, or vaginal cancer
- Women aged over 35 who smoke cigarettes
- Severe or migraine headaches with aura
- High blood pressure that is not controlled with medication
Drug Interactions
- Rifampicin: reduces the effectiveness of Estranor tablets and may lead to contraceptive failure.
- Phenytoin and carbamazepine: speed up the breakdown of hormones in the body, lowering protection against pregnancy
- St. John's Wort: a herbal supplement that can reduce hormone levels and affect contraceptive reliability
- Lamotrigine: Estranor tablet may reduce blood levels of lamotrigine, increasing the risk of seizures
- HIV antiretrovirals (e.g., ritonavir): may interact with the hormones and reduce contraceptive efficacy
Risks and warnings
- Blood clot risk: smoking, obesity, or prolonged bed rest during Estranor tablet use increases the risk of blood clots
- Hypertension: Estranor tablet can raise blood pressure and requires regular monitoring in women with a history of high BP
- Migraine with aura: new or worsening migraines with visual disturbances are a warning sign to stop the tablet immediately
- Liver function: women with a history of liver disease or jaundice must have liver function checked before use
- Diabetes: hormonal contraceptives can affect blood glucose levels and may require adjustment of diabetes treatment
- Depression: Estranor tablet may worsen low mood in women with a history of depression
- Pregnancy: Estranor tablet must not be taken during pregnancy as it may harm the developing baby
- Breastfeeding: hormonal contraceptives containing estrogen can reduce milk production and pass into breast milk
- Elderly patients: this medicine is not intended for use in post-menopausal women
- Driving and machinery: no direct effect on driving ability, but dizziness as a side effect warrants caution
Estranor Tablet Side Effects
- Nausea or vomiting
- Headache or dizziness
- Breast tenderness or swelling
- Irregular vaginal bleeding or spotting, especially in the first few months
- Mood changes, including low mood or irritability
- Changes in weight or appetite
- Stomach pain or bloating
- Acne or darkening of facial skin
- Fluid retention in the hands, ankles, or feet
- Blood clot in a vein or artery (serious, requires immediate medical attention)
- Increased blood pressure
- Liver problems, including jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes)
- Signs of a stroke, such as sudden weakness, slurred speech, or vision problems

- Store at room temperature, below 25°C
- Keep away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture
