How to use Eszopic Tablet 2mg?
- Eszopic tablet works best when taken on an empty stomach or with a light meal.
- Heavy, high-fat meals slow absorption and reduce the medicine's effect
- Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water right before going to bed
- Take this medicine only when you can get a full 7 to 8 hours of sleep
- Do not stop this medicine suddenly without asking your doctor first
Contraindications
- Known allergy to eszopiclone or any ingredient in the tablet
- History of complex sleep behaviors, such as sleepwalking or sleep-driving, after taking any sleep medicine
- Severe liver disease, as the medicine stays in the body longer, increases the risk of side effects
- Active respiratory disorders or breathing problems that worsen with sedation
- Patients are currently taking sodium oxybate, as the combination is contraindicated
- Children and adolescents under the age of 18
Drug Interactions
- Alcohol: Combining alcohol with Eszopic tablet significantly increases drowsiness, dizziness, and the risk of breathing problems
- Benzodiazepines (e.g., diazepam, alprazolam): Using these with Eszopic tablet raises the risk of severe sedation and slowed breathing
- Opioid painkillers (e.g., tramadol, morphine): This combination can cause dangerous levels of sedation and respiratory depression
- Ketoconazole and other strong antifungals: These medicines slow the breakdown of Eszopic tablet in the body, causing it to stay longer and increase sedation
- Rifampicin: This antibiotic speeds up the metabolism of Eszopic tablet, which can reduce its effectiveness in treating insomnia
- Anticonvulsants (e.g., phenytoin, carbamazepine): These medicines lower Eszopic tablet levels in the blood and may reduce how well it works
- Olanzapine and other antipsychotics: Using these with the Eszopic tablet can increase next-day drowsiness and impair coordination
- Antihistamines (e.g., chlorphenamine): These medicines add to the sedative effect of Eszopic tablet and increase the risk of prolonged drowsiness

Risks and warnings

- Substance use disorder: Eszopiclone is a controlled medicine with a risk of dependence. Patients with a history of drug or alcohol abuse need careful monitoring.
- Respiratory disorders: Patients with asthma, COPD, or sleep apnea face a higher risk of breathing complications during sleep.
- Elderly patients: Older adults are more sensitive to eszopiclone's effects. Risks include falls, confusion, and excessive next-day drowsiness.
