What Experts Say
Quetiapine, the active ingredient in Evokalm, is an atypical antipsychotic that works by adjusting dopamine and serotonin activity in the brain. Psychiatrists prescribe it to reduce hallucinations, delusions and disorganized thinking in schizophrenia, and to smooth out the extreme mood swings seen in bipolar disorder.
Doctors usually start Evokalm at a low dose and raise it gradually over several days. This slow titration lowers the risk of dizziness and low blood pressure while letting the body adjust to the medicine. Regular follow up visits allow the psychiatrist to track weight, blood sugar and cholesterol, since quetiapine can affect metabolism over time.
Experts stress that Evokalm should never be started or stopped without medical guidance, since sudden discontinuation can trigger withdrawal symptoms or a relapse of the original condition. Combining the medicine with counseling, a stable routine and family support tends to give the best long term outcomes for patients managing schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.

Risks and warnings
