About Fasteso Tablet 40mg
A higher strength proton pump inhibitor tablet used to treat acid reflux, GERD and stomach ulcers in adults.
Drug Class
Fasteso Tablet 40mg belongs to a group of medicines called proton pump inhibitors, often shortened to PPIs. It works by blocking the acid pump in the stomach lining, lowering acid levels for a longer stretch than older acid reducing medicines.
Fasteso Tablet 40mg Uses in Pakistan
- Treating gastroesophageal reflux disease, commonly known as GERD, including cases with visible damage to the food pipe lining
- Healing erosive esophagitis and helping prevent its relapse with continued use
- Reducing the risk of stomach ulcers linked to long term NSAID pain reliever use
- Supporting Helicobacter pylori eradication as part of a combination antibiotic regimen
- Managing rare acid overproduction conditions such as Zollinger Ellison syndrome
What Experts Say
Gastroenterologists often move patients to a higher esomeprazole dose once symptoms are not fully controlled on a standard course. The 40mg strength gives a stronger and more sustained reduction in stomach acid, which helps difficult reflux symptoms and erosive esophagitis heal more completely.
Esomeprazole binds to the acid pump inside stomach cells, so its effect lasts well beyond a single dose. At the higher strength, this translates into a longer window of low acid exposure each day, which matters most for patients with more severe or treatment resistant disease.
Long term proton pump inhibitor use is generally safe under medical supervision, though doctors periodically review the ongoing need for treatment. Extended courses carry a modestly higher chance of low magnesium, vitamin B12 deficiency and bone fracture risk, so the lowest effective dose for the shortest necessary duration remains the standard guiding principle.
