What Experts Say
Flurbiprofen belongs to the propionic acid group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It blocks both COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes, lowering prostaglandin production and reducing pain, swelling and fever. Its anti-inflammatory potency ranks among the stronger options in this drug class, which is why it is often chosen for joint and muscle pain that has not responded well to milder painkillers.
Doctors usually prescribe FBI Tablet 100mg in divided doses through the day rather than one large dose, since this keeps blood levels steady and improves pain control between doses. The 100mg strength allows flexible titration for adults with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis, and the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration is recommended to limit gastrointestinal and cardiovascular risk.
Because NSAIDs can affect the stomach lining, kidneys and blood pressure, physicians monitor patients on extended flurbiprofen courses closely, especially older adults and those with existing heart or kidney disease. A gastroprotective agent is often added for longer courses, and combining it with other NSAIDs or blood thinners is generally avoided due to bleeding risk.
