Cefoperazone is a third generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It stops bacteria from building their cell wall, which kills the germs. It is usually given in hospital or clinic settings for moderate to severe infections. Doses are usually given every twelve hours, but the exact schedule is chosen by the doctor.

It is active against many bacteria that cause chest, urine, abdominal and blood infections. Much of it is cleared through bile, so it is helpful in liver and gallbladder related infections. Doctors may change the antibiotic once culture results show which germ is causing the infection. Injection sites and veins are checked regularly during treatment to catch irritation early.

It treats only bacterial infections and must be given by a doctor or trained provider. Alcohol should be avoided during treatment and for a few days after. How to use Fopera injection 500mg?

• Fopera Injection must be given only by a doctor or trained healthcare provider, into a muscle or vein.
• Dose and duration are decided by the doctor based on the infection and liver and kidney function.
• Complete the full course, even if you feel better.
• Tell the provider about any penicillin allergy or bleeding problems before the injection.

Drug Interactions

• Alcohol: Can trigger a disulfiram like reaction with flushing, sweating, headache and vomiting.
• Warfarin and blood thinners: Bleeding risk may increase, so clotting tests are monitored.
• Aminoglycoside antibiotics: Should not be mixed in the same syringe or infusion, and kidney function is monitored when used together.

Risks and warnings

• Allergy: Can cause serious allergic reactions. People allergic to penicillin may also react to cephalosporins.
• Bleeding risk: Can lower vitamin K related clotting factors and cause bleeding or bruising, especially in poor nutrition or long courses.
• Alcohol: A reaction with flushing, headache, fast heartbeat and vomiting can occur if alcohol is taken during or soon after treatment.
