Fusil HC pairs fusidic acid with hydrocortisone. Fusidic acid is an antibiotic that stops bacteria such as Staphylococcus from growing on the skin. Hydrocortisone is a mild steroid that calms redness, swelling and itch. Both ingredients have been used together on the skin for many years.

This combination suits eczema or dermatitis when germs have settled on the inflamed skin. Treating both problems at once can settle symptoms faster than either ingredient alone in such cases. Doctors often choose it when the skin looks weepy, crusted or sore, and they review the skin after a few days.

Because it holds a steroid and an antibiotic, it is meant for short courses, usually about a week and no longer than the time your doctor sets. Long use can thin the skin and encourage antibiotic resistance, so it should not be used for weeks or on unexplained rashes. If the rash does not improve in a week, return to the doctor instead of continuing.

How to use Fusil - HC cream?

• Wash and dry your hands and the affected area before use.
• Apply a thin layer of Fusil HC to the skin and rub in gently, usually two to three times a day as prescribed.
• Do not use for more than the duration your doctor advises, commonly up to 7 to 14 days.
• Wash your hands after applying, and keep the cream away from eyes and mouth.

Drug Interactions

• Other creams on the same area: Applying other skin products at the same site can change how well this cream works, so tell your doctor.
• Statins: This warning is for fusidic acid taken by mouth or injection, which can cause serious muscle problems. The cream is absorbed only in tiny amounts, but tell your doctor if you take a statin.

Risks and warnings

• Not for eyes: Avoid contact with eyes and do not apply inside the nose or mouth.
• Short use only: Long use or large areas can thin the skin and cause the steroid to be absorbed into the body.
• Skin infections: Do not use on viral infections such as cold sores or chickenpox, fungal infections or untreated acne and rosacea.
• Face and children: Use on the face, skin folds or in children only if a doctor advises.
• Pregnancy: Use only if the doctor thinks the benefit is greater than the risk.
