How to use Hylixia Drops?
- Hylixia drops can be taken with a small amount of water or juice if preferred
- Shake the bottle gently before measuring each dose using the dropper provided
- Do not use Hylixia drops for more than 7 days without consulting your doctor
- A higher strength form (syrup) is available for patients needing a larger dose volume
Contraindications
- Known allergy to ivy leaf extract (Hedera helix) or any other ingredient in the drops
- Known allergy to plants in the Araliaceae family, such as ginseng or Aralia species
- Children under 2 years of age without direct supervision by a doctor
- Patients with a chronic respiratory condition caused by a structural airway abnormality
- Patients with a known history of kidney disease or kidney stones
- Patients are currently taking antitussive (cough-suppressing) medications without medical advice
Drug Interactions
- Antitussive medicines (cough suppressants): Using Hylixia drops with cough suppressants is not recommended, as the two work against each other.
- Expectorants loosen mucus for expulsion while suppressants block the cough reflex.
- Blood thinners (anticoagulants): Ivy leaf extract may interact with blood-thinning medicines, potentially affecting how they work in the body.
- Other herbal or respiratory medicines: Combining Hylixia drops with other herbal cough preparations may increase the risk of side effects without added benefit.
Risks and warnings
- Kidney disease: Patients with a history of kidney problems should use Hylixia drops with caution and only under medical guidance.
- Respiratory infections with fever: If your cough is accompanied by a high fever, purulent (greenish) sputum, or difficulty breathing, consult a doctor right away.
- Persistent cough beyond 7 days: Hylixia drops are intended for short-term use. A cough lasting longer than one week needs a proper medical evaluation.
- Asthma: Hylixia drops are not a replacement for prescribed asthma inhalers or bronchodilators. Patients with asthma must continue their regular treatment.
- Allergy to Araliaceae plants: Patients with sensitivity to ginseng or related plants face a higher risk of allergic reactions to ivy leaf extract.
- Pregnancy: Reliable safety data for Hylixia drops in pregnancy is not available. A doctor should be consulted before use during pregnancy.
- Breastfeeding: The safety of ivy leaf extract during breastfeeding is not well-established. Medical advice is recommended before use.
- Elderly patients: Older patients with existing respiratory or kidney conditions should use Hylixia drops only under medical supervision.
