Sometimes it is used off-label for the management of neurological disorders, brain-related hyperactivity or neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism. This should only be done under the supervision of a medical professional.

Dosage

• Adults (16 years and above): 500 mg twice daily is the typical starting dose; depending on response, this can be increased by 500 mg every two weeks. The maximum dosage is 1500 mg twice a day (3000 mg/day).
• Children (4 to 15 years old): 10 mg/kg twice daily is a common starting dose that can be progressively raised to 30 mg/kg twice daily. The daily maximum dosage shouldn't be more than 3000 mg.
• Children (6 months to less than 4 years old): Start gradually from 10 mg/kg twice a day. The typical dose is 20-30 mg/kg twice a day. The adjustments should be made based on the response.
