About Levopraid Tablet 50mg
Levopraid Tablet 50mg (Levosulpiride) treats functional dyspepsia, nausea, and GI motility disorders.
Uses
- Functional dyspepsia (chronic indigestion)
- Nausea and vomiting linked to slow stomach emptying
- Gastroparesis symptoms such as bloating and early fullness
- Irritable bowel syndrome with GI motility complaints
- Gastroesophageal reflux related discomfort
Benefits
- Speeds up stomach emptying so food moves through the gut normally
- Reduces nausea without the heavy sedation seen with older antiemetics
- Eases bloating, fullness, and upper abdominal discomfort after meals
- Has a lower tendency to cross into the brain compared to older benzamides, which may mean fewer movement related side effects for some patients
What Experts Say
Levosulpiride works by blocking dopamine D2 receptors in the gut wall. This tightens the lower esophageal sphincter and speeds up gastric emptying, which explains why doctors prescribe it for functional dyspepsia and gastroparesis.
Because levosulpiride has limited penetration into the central nervous system compared to older benzamides, it is generally better tolerated for long term GI use. Even so, doctors monitor patients for movement related side effects and elevated prolactin levels during extended courses.
Clinicians usually start with the lowest effective dose and reassess after two to four weeks. Patients with Parkinson's disease, heart rhythm problems, or liver and kidney impairment need closer supervision before starting this medicine.
Drug Class
- Benzamide derivative
