Drug Interactions

• Macrolide antibiotics such as clarithromycin: These raise atorvastatin levels and increase the chance of muscle damage.
• Azole antifungals such as itraconazole: These slow the breakdown of atorvastatin and may need a lower dose.
• Cyclosporine: This is not advised with atorvastatin because of a higher risk of muscle injury.
• Fibrates and high dose niacin: These raise the risk of muscle problems when combined with statins.
