What Experts Say
Ophthalmologists in Pakistan often reach for a combination drop when an eye looks both infected and inflamed. A steroid alone can hide a growing infection, while an antibiotic alone will not calm the swelling and irritation. Combination drops like Meditrol act on both problems in one bottle, which matters in Pakistan's dusty, humid climate where eye infections are common.
Meditrol Drops work through three separate active ingredients. Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid that reduces the immune response causing redness and swelling. Neomycin sulfate and polymyxin B sulfate are antibiotics that target different types of bacteria, together covering most bacteria linked to eye and ear infections in Pakistani clinics.
Doctors generally limit treatment to seven to ten days. Longer use of a steroid around the eye can raise eye pressure and slow the eye's natural healing. Ear specialists also caution against using these drops if the eardrum is perforated. A follow up visit helps confirm the infection has cleared before stopping treatment.
