What Experts Say
Levonorgestrel is a synthetic progestin hormone. It works mainly by delaying or preventing ovulation, so no egg is released for fertilization. It may also thicken cervical mucus and slightly alter the uterine lining, which makes implantation less likely. It does not end an existing pregnancy and has no effect once implantation has already taken place.
Gynecologists across Pakistan stress that timing decides how well this tablet works. The first dose should be taken as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse, ideally within a few hours. Effectiveness is highest in the first 24 hours and drops with each additional day, though some protection remains up to 72 hours.
Doctors caution against relying on Medkit Tablet 0.75mg as a regular contraceptive method. Repeated use exposes the body to high hormone doses and can disrupt normal menstrual cycles without offering the same protection as daily pills, condoms, or an IUD. Anyone whose period is delayed by more than a week after taking it should see a doctor to rule out pregnancy.
