Metoclon Injection Uses

• Controls nausea and vomiting following surgery
• Relieves nausea linked to chemotherapy or radiotherapy
• Speeds up stomach emptying in diabetic gastroparesis
• Given before certain GI or radiology procedures

How to use Metoclon Injection?

• Administered only by a doctor or nurse, into a vein or muscle
• Not for use at home or self administration
• Given as a slow infusion before chemotherapy when used for that purpose
• Long courses beyond twelve weeks are generally avoided

Contraindications

• Not recommended for patients with a bowel obstruction or GI perforation
• Contraindicated in patients with a pheochromocytoma
• Known allergy to metoclopramide rules out using this injection
• This medicine must not be used by patients with epilepsy or Parkinson's disease

Drug Interactions

• CNS depressants such as alcohol or sedatives: combined use raises drowsiness
• Other dopamine antagonists or antipsychotics: raises the risk of movement side effects
• MAO inhibitors: may intensify this injection's effects
• Digoxin: this injection may lower digoxin absorption

Risks and warnings

• Extended use: raises the risk of long term involuntary movement problems
• Older patients: have a higher chance of movement related side effects
• Pregnancy: this injection is used only when clearly necessary
• Infants under one year: should not receive this injection

• Drowsiness and fatigue
• Restlessness or anxiety
• Dizziness and headache
• Diarrhea
• Involuntary muscle movements or spasms
• Rare severe allergic reaction

Storage Conditions

• Store below 25°C, away from light
• Do not freeze
• Keep out of reach of children
