What Experts Say

Meloxicam is an NSAID that blocks enzymes called COX, which make the chemicals behind pain and swelling. It leans toward COX 2, so stomach irritation may be lower than with some older NSAIDs. Its long action allows one tablet a day for joint conditions. Gentle exercise and weight control also ease joint strain over time.

The lowest effective dose for the shortest time is the safest approach. Taking it with food protects the stomach, and drinking enough water supports the kidneys. The 15 mg strength is the highest daily dose and should not be exceeded. Blood pressure and kidney checks are sensible for people on it for months.

It is not suitable for people with stomach ulcers, serious kidney, liver or heart disease, or aspirin sensitive asthma. In Pakistan, dengue is a special concern, because NSAIDs raise bleeding risk, so paracetamol is preferred for fever unless a doctor advises otherwise.

How to use Movicox tablet 15mg?

• Adults: 7.5 mg to 15 mg once daily with food, as prescribed.
• Do not take more than 15 mg in 24 hours.
• Swallow with water, and take at the same time each day.
• Stop and consult the doctor if black stools, stomach pain or swelling develop.

Drug Interactions

• Aspirin and other NSAIDs: Together they raise ulcer and bleeding risk.
• Warfarin and blood thinners: Meloxicam may increase the risk of bleeding.
• ACE inhibitors, ARBs and diuretics: It may weaken their blood pressure effect and strain the kidneys.
• Methotrexate and lithium: Meloxicam can raise their blood levels and cause toxicity.

Risks and warnings

• Stomach bleeding and ulcers: It can irritate the stomach lining, so use with food and avoid long courses.
• Heart and stroke risk: It may raise cardiovascular risk, especially at higher doses and with long use.
• Kidney problems: It can reduce kidney function, particularly with dehydration.
• Asthma and allergy: It can trigger wheezing or rash in aspirin sensitive people.
• Pregnancy and dengue: It is not advised in late pregnancy or during suspected dengue fever.
