Cefadroxil is a dependable first generation cephalosporin that kills bacteria by disrupting the wall they need to survive. It works well against common throat, skin and urinary infections.

The double strength suspension allows convenient, accurate dosing for children and is usually given once or twice a day. Its longer action can mean fewer daily doses than some other antibiotics.

As with all antibiotics, the full course should be completed even after symptoms settle, to clear the infection and reduce resistance. A history of penicillin or cephalosporin allergy should be shared with the doctor.

How to use Neucef DS?

• Shake the bottle well before each dose.
• Measure the dose with the provided measuring device.
• Give once or twice daily as prescribed, with or without food.
• Complete the full course even if the child feels better.
• Keep reconstituted suspension refrigerated if advised and use within the stated days.

Drug Interactions

Cefadroxil can interact with a few medicines during treatment.

• Probenecid: Raises cefadroxil levels by slowing its removal.
• Blood thinners: May increase the blood thinning effect.
• Live typhoid vaccine: Antibiotics can reduce its effect.
• Other antibiotics: Combining should be guided by a doctor.

Risks and warnings

• Penicillin allergy: Use with caution if allergic to penicillins or cephalosporins.
• Severe diarrhea: Report persistent diarrhea, which may signal a gut infection.
• Kidney function: Dose may need adjustment in reduced kidney function.
• Prolonged use: Watch for signs of a new fungal or resistant infection.
